Notes — Units I, II and IV (Grammar, Writing, Comprehension)
Covers three of the four units of AR120. Unit I, language basics and functional grammar: parts of speech, sentence structure and types, transformation of sentences, subject-verb agreement, articles and determiners, prepositions, tenses, active and passive voice, and vocabulary development. Unit II, writing for the workplace: principles of effective writing, paragraph structure, coherence and cohesion, paraphrasing, summarising, editing and proofreading, and professional correspondence including emails, notices, memos and circulars. Unit IV: reading strategies, comprehension, inference and interpretation. Unit III, speaking and presentation — group discussion technique, body language, voice modulation, verbal against non-verbal communication and the barriers to it — is NOT covered. Neither are the specific speeches and talks Unit IV names for audio-visual analysis.
